NEET is the dream exam for lakhs of students who want to become doctors. Every year, NEET(National Eligibility cum entrance test) brings small or big changes so that we have to update with the latest syllabus and patterns. In NEET 2025, there are some important changes in the Biology section as compared to NEET 2024. Understanding these changes can help you prepare smarter and avoid unnecessary confusion.
In NEET 2025 Biology paper introduced some changes if we compared it to the previous year. Most aspirants were not expecting and well prepared for the kind of changes that happened. Because the students are following the trend of the previous year papers or older patterns. In the previous year paper, the maximum questions of paper comprised direct, memory-based that could easily be answered through rote learning or simply recalling based facts. This year the paper becomes more conceptual and analytical. So this is one of the most significant changes observed in that questions were application-based, multiconceptual, statement-wise, and Assertion-reason. So these questions checked the Student's ability to logically analyze relationships between concepts. NTA designed the paper in such a way as to challenge Students' critical thinking rather than Simple recall.
The NEET 2026 exam pattern is likely to remain the same as last year. Last year (NEET2025), the exam pattern of NEET was changed by NTA, reverting it to that of the pre-COVID era. The optional questions were removed. Instead of 200 questions, there are now 180 questions.
The exam pattern will consist of 200 questions equally distributed among Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany. Each section will have two parts, A and B, with 35 and 15 questions, respectively B. Candidates must attempt 10 out of 15 questions in part B. Few questions involve the concepts of both Genetics & Biotechnology or combine Ideas from Plant Physiology and Ecology. The distribution of questions as per weightage is also changed. In NEET 2025, Conceptual chapters like Genetics, Plant Kingdom, Biotechnology & Ecology had more weightage compared to the previous year. In the past, chapters like Biological Classification, and Plant Kingdom, had many straightforward Questions. However, recently, these chapters have fewer questions that directly ask for simple facts.
Diagram-based questions are directly from NCERT figures, requiring students to not only identify structures but also explain functions and relationships. For example, questions on the human nephron, bioreactor, etc. There were questions from scientific history, a general introduction, and a summary. Generally students during preparation time they skip this part of NCERT. So now students must have to know the importance of each part or topic of NCERT. Finally, aspirants understand the importance of accuracy, time management, and strategic preparation. One interesting point of NEET 2025 that the Biology paper was the balance between class 11 and class 12th syllabus. While earlier papers sometimes shifted in favor of one class, NEET 2025 maintained almost equal representation. With questions being more indirect and conceptual, students who spent time practicing NCERT line-by-line, solving multi-concept NEET-level MCQs, and focusing on weak areas were better able to manage the paper within the given time. The trend of this paper indicates that future aspirants must have a strong foundation of concepts, practicing assertion-reason and integrated MCQs, and revising NCERT multiple times in a focused way.
In conclusion, NEET 2025 Biology has set a new standard by promoting analytical thinking, deeper understanding, and precise knowledge of NCERT content. So you have to complete the biology part with less time with high accuracy so you can give your maximum time on the physics and chemistry part. The new NEET exam encourages students to learn biology by understanding it deeply, not just memorizing facts.
